7 Best Day Trips from Tamarindo by Scooter

One of the best things about renting a scooter in Tamarindo is the freedom to chase your own adventure. With a full tank and a helmet, a whole stretch of Guanacaste coastline opens up. Here are seven of our favourite day trips — all reachable on a Honda Navi, with an honest word on distance and road conditions.

1. Playa Langosta

Barely five minutes south of town, Langosta is the easy win: calmer water, fewer crowds, and a gorgeous estuary at its south end. Perfect for a sunrise ride and a quiet morning swim.

2. Playa Avellanas (Lola''s)

About 25–30 minutes away on a mix of paved and dirt road, Avellanas is a surfer favourite and home to the legendary Lola''s beach restaurant. Go for the waves, stay for lunch under the trees.

3. Playa Negra

A little further past Avellanas, Playa Negra rewards you with a world-class reef break and a wild, rocky shoreline. The last stretch is bumpy, so take it slow and enjoy the scenery.

4. Villarreal & 27 de Abril

Not every great trip is a beach. These nearby towns give you a taste of everyday Guanacaste — local sodas (family restaurants), fresh fruit stands, and that real pura vida pace.

5. Tamarindo Estuary lookout

Ride to the north end of Tamarindo and you will find views over the estuary toward Playa Grande, part of Las Baulas Marine Park. Bring a camera — the birdlife is incredible.

6. Playa Grande

By road it is a longer loop around the estuary, but Playa Grande is worth it: a vast, protected nesting beach for leatherback turtles and one of the most peaceful sunsets in the area.

7. Playa Conchal

The famous crushed-shell beach near Brasilito is a stretch goal on a scooter (allow extra time and fuel), but the turquoise water and white shores are unforgettable.

Local tip: fuel up before you leave, ride within your comfort zone, and always check the dirt roads after rain — some get soft quickly.

Ready to roll? Grab a Honda Navi and we will deliver it to your hotel with a helmet and our best route tips.
